Ice & Water Shield

Published July 01, 2026 · By the Maxx Roofing team · 5–8 min read

The single most overlooked roofing upgrade. Cheap to add, expensive to skip.

What we install (and why)

We're certified installers for GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed — the three biggest names in North American shingle. Being certified by all three means we install each system to the manufacturer's own specifications — which is what keeps your shingle warranty options open.

Performance in Oklahoma — what 30+ years has taught us

Marketing brochures will tell you everything is 'the best.' Field data tells you which products actually last in a state where the average roof takes 4-7 hail events in its lifetime. Here's our honest take after walking thousands of Tulsa roofs:

The 'cheap' shingles to avoid

Three-tab shingles are still legal to install in Oklahoma but we won't do it. They're 25-year products that act like 12-year products here. The savings versus architectural ($800–$1,200 on a typical home) disappear at the first hail claim.

Underlayment, flashing, ventilation

A great shingle on a mediocre system still fails early. Synthetic underlayment, full ice-and-water shield in valleys and around all penetrations, kick-out flashing at every wall termination, and proper ridge-and-soffit ventilation are non-negotiable on every install we do.

Whether you're in Sapulpa, Claremore, or Jenks, the right roof for your home depends on your pitch, exposure, HOA rules, and the storm history of your specific neighborhood. We've worked every ZIP from Sand Springs to Claremore.
